4th December

“In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

“You know ‘the time’ has come: you must wake up now: our salvation is even nearer than it was when we were converted. The night is almost over, it will be daylight soon.” – Romans 13:11

This advent we are going to be supporting the work of Jesuit Missions working with some of the most vulnerable, marginalized and forgotten about communities around the world. Jesuit Missions have loaned us this beautiful hand carved crib from Africa.

The crib reminds us that God made himself vulnerable to unite himself with humanity, to be with us, in our joys and in our suffering, so we might better know the extent of his unconditional love for us.

This crib reminds us that God continues to unite himself with humanity in all its contexts. Today we can look for God’s presence in the ordinary and everyday scenes of our lives. We are reminded that God particularly draws close though the marginalized, vulnerable, poor and forgotten. During these Advent calendar reflections we will be learning more about the people Jesuit Missions supports, who we can help through our fundraising this Advent.

Make time during this Advent season to focus on the true meaning of Christmas.

“Advent should enable us to discover the face of Christ in every sister and brother we greet, in every friend whose hand we shake, in every beggar who asks for bread. Let us Christians commit ourselves to being actively present in this society where we are called to be heralds of the Kingdom of God.” Amen.

-St Oscar Romero
