“In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
“The righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Amen I say to you, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did it to me’“
-Matthew 25:37-40
This passage from Jesus’ parable of the sheep and the goats reminds us that we should look for God’s presence in our world, not just in ‘religious’ things, but amongst the ordinary and everyday, especially in the lives of the people around us.
Look up the Jesuit Missions website or follow them on your social media to keep in touch with them, and find out more about the work they are doing to support some of the most neglected and unjustly treated communities in our world.
Merciful God,
We ask for forgiveness for all the times in our lives when we have failed to do the good we could have done. We ask forgiveness for the times we have failed to see another person as one who is made in your image and likeness, deserving of our love and respect. We ask your Holy Spirit to soften our hard hearts. Help us to recognize your presence in our life and in the lives of others.
This prayer we humbly make in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son. Amen.
